This art piece was created to show the passage of time that occurs in a family’s life. As we all move towards our own separate paths and futures, we forget the precious moments we share in the past. Parts of our history become forgotten but what will always remain are the faces and actions of our loved ones. The stories that we share in our past may come in selected frames of our memories, but the most important parts will continue to be remembered in our everyday lives. We take these ordinary moments for granted and realize life has moved on too quickly.

These frame stills show an old family video that was captured on a Sony camcorder in the early 2000s. It was then cut up into 12 different frames for every second. It captures a moment of a mother with her three children. The oldest child dancing, the second oldest being carried, and the third sibling in the secondary clip. The intention of the frames you physically see may look a lot, but in reality it’s only a fraction of a memory.

This piece is dedicated to my mother who has always supported, loved, and cared for my brothers and I. I couldn’t have asked for anything else besides replaying these moments with her.
